The Loft at Lune 1860
•
A study in stillness, texture, and atmospheric design
It has been a journey, slow, deliberate, and deeply felt. Now available on the grounds of Lune 1860 is the Loft, a new event space where material, mood, and memory meet.
This 2,000-square-foot sanctuary is unlike anything else. Six soaring, floor-to-ceiling cathedral windows draw natural light deep into the room. The scent of wild herbs and seasonal blooms drifts through open doors. Underfoot, organically sized Italian marble stone floors offer grounding and presence. Every surface reveals the care, patience, and craftsmanship behind it.

More than a place to gather, the Loft is a quiet study in atmosphere and intention. Designed for weddings, celebrations, photoshoots, corporate retreats, and meaningful gatherings, the space comfortably accommodates up to 100 seated guests.

How It Started

The Loft began not as something we set out to build, but as a simple ask from a friend.
What was once a large barn garage became an unlikely canvas. When we were approached about hosting a wedding there, Lisa saw past what it was at that moment. Beyond the rough edges, darkness, and emptiness, she immediately imagined what it could become. Our friends trusted her eye. They knew that with her touch, something beautiful would take shape.

By embracing the existing wooden structure, and after seven coats of our favourite warm white paint colour, the transformation began. Twelve vintage chandeliers were hung throughout, casting soft light across newly brightened walls. Suddenly, the humble barn became the backdrop to some of the most beautiful celebrations.
One wedding led to another. What began as a one-off project soon drew genuine interest, and before long, inquiries for weddings and events were arriving regularly.

The space, however, had its limitations. In Central Huron, portable washrooms are not permitted for venues of this nature, which meant permanent, fully accessible facilities were required. That single requirement set everything else in motion.
Bylaw amendments were needed to allow portions of the agricultural property to be used for commercial purposes. Engineering assessments and architectural plans followed, guiding the safe and thoughtful conversion of the barn into a fully accommodating venue. From there, Lisa and the design team, Studio Author, layered in the aesthetic details that now define the Loft.
Many of the trades had never worked on a project quite like this before. Ezra became the general contractor, working closely with each trade through every detail, experimenting and testing as needed to ensure every element was both aesthetic and fully functional for commercial use.

What stands today is the result of patience, perseverance, and the belief that thoughtful design is always worth the effort.
The Inspiration

The Loft draws from monolithic cathedral traditions and monastic architecture, places built for unity, reflection, and connection. Their power lies not in spectacle, but in restraint. Mass, proportion, and light work quietly together to create a sense of reverence.
That sensibility was translated into a contemporary setting by shaping a grounding volume that feels communal without being loud, and by creating a sequence of gentle thresholds that allow for pause, privacy, and return.
Marble flagstone floors root the space in the earth. A nested wash basin and an ancient stone inspired bar create moments of quiet ritual. Prismatic windows pull nacreous light across softly curved corridors and sinuous corners, treating light as a material that guides movement, softens edges, and marks moments of ceremony. Every detail invites guests into a celestial dwelling that feels both expansive and deeply intimate.
A New Chapter

This rarified indoor and outdoor environment bridges the celestial and the terrestrial, a gathering place where life’s most meaningful moments can unfold. Designed as a sanctum for celebration, collaboration, and design, the Loft welcomes up to 100 guests for seated events.
Expansive doors open the full width of the space, inviting guests to take in the surrounding countryside. During Huron County's renowned sunsets, warm, dappling light pours through the windows, casting playful patterns across the stone floors.
Just steps away, an outdoor fireplace nods to a lunar form through its clean, circular design. A low concrete ring creates a shared perimeter, while the central fire pit anchors the space with steady, welcoming warmth. The round layout naturally draws guests inward, making it easy to gather and feel connected in a simple, unifying way.

The Loft also includes three washrooms, a bar area, and a kitchen to support a wide range of events.
We are honoured that the Loft has recently been named a 2025 top wedding venue in Canada and has received a 2025 international design award from the International Design Awards.
